I bought a few spools of Gutermann's silk yesterday, one of which is a sort of variegated olive colour. It is labelled as Gutermann Sulky 100% cotton, CA02776, COL4020. It's a little thicker than Pearsal's, so getting a nice head was difficult, but I like the results.



HOOK - Kamasan B175 #14
THREAD - See Above (unwaxed)
HACKLE - Brown Partridge
BODY - Single layer of thread wrapped from shoulder to bend
RIB - Thread wrapped back up to the shoulder in an open spiral.



Exactly the same pattern, but this time I waxed the thread.

Looks like cool stuff, great flies! The silk seems to give a fuzzy look to them, which I really like. How do you like working with it- does it tie materials down securely?

It was fine to work with and everything seems secure. Though more so when it was waxed.

It appears the waxing reduced the fuzziness. I like using materials that I can alter the properties of so simply. Where did you get this silk?

Nicely done! I like them both a lot. I'm attracted to Olives because we get some good hatches where I am.

Liam I got it from a local Hobbycraft store.

I like the fuzzyness on them. The extra movement will look great in water. Nice ties.
