I have no idea what kind of feather this is ... I found it stuck in a branch of the fir tree next to the upper level of our back deck. To give you an idea of size, the hook is a Size 8 Daiichi 1550.

The feather in question is from the Greater American Bald Sparrow....Latin name is Finchius Nudeius Maximus
You can quote me on this. I stayed in a Holliday Inn Express last night!
By the way... Awesome tie as usual sir!

OMG!!.............."Awesome" barely covers it.........the tye and the pic are just rediculously STUNNING! Bill, you should REALLY!!!!! get a copyright on that pic. That pic is worth some serious duckets. It speaks way more than a thousand words.

THAT!! is what fly tying is ALLLL about.

i've written just a little something to go with the pic................the site won't let me stagger the lies, so they appear straight edged here, but actually lines 2, 4, & 6 are indented.........
breath floats on the wind.....a
morning mist...an evening due
moist as the sound of the whippoorwhill....
moonlight in the dark
a sense of ashes falling.......fertil dust
blown from the nostrils of trout..

I believe I am the ordinary standing at the feet of the extraordinary. Beautiful words for a beautiful fly. You guys amaze me. Guys on other forums are scratching themselves and you write lines of poetry. Unbelievable!

fflutterffly, Howdy;
He scratches also, he's a guy (we
do that),

...
but he does a good job waxing (maybe that's why he scratches), poetic too...

I am truly flattered, Mark, that you were moved to write something this beautiful.

just realised i spelled dew wrong..........

.......well, i've been writing poetry since i was 14.........although long stretches of years sometimes go by between times.........when your young, innocent, stary eyed, optomistic, enthused, etc., etc., etc.......the stuff just flows..............i was very prolific way back when................but of course.........seems i always choose things where i don't stand godamn chance of making any money.............
oh well.............i married well.......

........the poetry of a young man.....may or may not contain much substance.......time to go back and begin again.
i think i'm going to include poetry in my book..............yeah that book (the novella, JazzFlies) i wrote in '99, which has still never seen the light of day......................i've got to get off and stay off the road for a year or two to get it finished........we'll see.
your fly and the pic together definately did it for me though..........
