Halloween Hackle

Halloween Hackle
Hook: Cabela's Model 25 - Size 12
Thread: Danville's 6/0 orange
Body: Dark tail quill from a fighting rooster
Thorax: Blended dubbing with orange tabby cat, fox squirrel fur, orange Antron, and dyed-orange rabbit
Hackle: Unknown, black
Instead of contrasting with the black hackle, the wee orange head disappeared into the orange thorax. Black thread might've been the better choice. Perhaps The Great Pumpkin will be merciful.
Tricks and treats welcomed.

Re: Halloween Hackle
Thats quite the dubbing blend you have going.
When I was a kid my father had a strain of chickens called "Red Quills". I wish I had kept a few of those feathers.
I like the Cabelas 25 Hook you are using. I have been using the Dai-Riki 135's but they are getting hard to find locally. There is a Cabelas store nearby and I think I can use that model you are using.
I bet I can use that fly of yours this Spring as a Caddis Pupa/Emerger.

Seasonably superb!

Re: Halloween Hackle
No need to use Snail Mail if that Cabelas Model 25 is the same or as good as the Dai-Riki hooks. The only noticable difference I see is the Cabelas hook only goes as small as size 18, where the Dai-Riki goes down to 22.willowhead wrote:Wayne, just call Dan Bailey's in Livingston.....they'll ship you whatever you need in a Dai Rici hook. i know ($)"shipping" suckx.....but put a few more things in the order and it aint to bad...........
In any event, I sure like that pattern of swellcats'. I know it's a holiday pattern, but the body of the fly really intrigues me.
