Size 18 Claret Softie

Post by fly_fischa » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:32 pm

This is my first post since my intro, which was quite a while ago. Thanks to everyones advice and feedback on my first batches of flies, I think my soft hackles have improved ;)

I tied this little guy to take a break from tying for a comp I'm entering. It was a refreshing excercise to get away from counting gills and splitting tails with 17/0 trico thread!

As always feedback, the good, the bad, the ugly are all welcome ;)

Looks like you brought the gill-counting skills to bear both at the vise and behind the camera.

Very compelling.

Welcome back Karsten! The fly and photo are fantastic. I'm a sucker for claret & the color on this is wonderfully rich. The grey hackle compliments the claret nicely. I hope to see many more soft hackles from you in the future.

What vice are you using? I don't recognize it.

Thanks guys, appreciate your comments :)

Ray- Good to hear from you buddy, you've been posting some beautiful ties recently. I get the feeling I've seen a few of them before ;)
I'll try to come through on the many more soft hackles in the future.
The vise you ask about was a gift I received before I left for sunny London, it's a C&F Marco Polo Vise/travel kit.
Nicely done. Glad we helped!
Thanks Mark, help you did, I learnt more from the generous members on this forum than can be gleaned from any book or DVD.
This is a great forum :D

Nice little fly! 8-) Do you have anywhere nearby to fish it?
