Pink thing...

Playing around with ideas for the hot spot softies swap today. Came up with this pink thing, not sure how I feel about it. It might have something to do with the dyed peacock quill not being the nicest shade of pink. :? The thought behind the dual hot spot was to create some contrast between the pink tag and body. I'm sure the Grayling would be all over it...

BEAUTIFUL! Crisply dressed fly. I love this dressing. I bet this would work on brookies as well.

Catch a few grayling for me, Karsten, and please remember to take some photos. I can live vicariously through your pictures.

I see no pink clash here -- only creative thought and execution without peer. Simply awesome to my way of thinklng.

The body, to me, is the pretty part; the tags are a distraction and seem overly long. (Arbitrary, subjective assessment, of course.) With quill of that nice shade, you could claim the whole body is a hot spot. :)

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Swellcat -
I hear you and reckon you're right, thanks for the constructive feedback. ;)
I've looked at the fly for a second time and the tags do seem tooo looong! I'll tie another fly when I get a chance and might just add a single or two turn tag before the quill body starts. K

Karsten - For what it is worth, I have been using four-turns of Pearsall's for my hot spots/tags. Keep in mind that Pearsall's is kind of "thick" compared with other threads. I think it is similar in thickness to a 3/0 thread. The number of turns will depend on the length you want and the thickness of the thread you are using.

As one of my advisors is fun of saying, dig it! It's all for fun.I love the fly and that the pink is not uniform. Gives it an artistic look, unique.

That hook appears to be 1x or 2x long.....so i see nothin' at all wrong with the double tag idea. Kinna unique. That body is rediculas cool. Where in the heck did you find those quills? ;)
