Well, you see, there's been all this talk recently about "orange", and I had this really nice hackle with orangish barb tips and some orange silk thread and it is, after all the "Flymphforum" ...

Hook: Mustad vintage 3913B upturned eye, Size #12 (thanks again, william)
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer #19 hot orange
Hackle: Furnace type hen, one side stripped
Body: Two strands of herl from a peacock eyestick bleached and dyed Muskrat Gray; twisted with loop of tying thread and wrapped forward

I bet the silk darkens into a lovely warm brown color when the pattern gets wet. I am guessing the segmentation of the silk will show thru the herl fibers completing the illusion of an insect body.

In other words, terrific design, Bill. It has all the makings of a trout slayer. Bravo.

Great pattern Bill. I will say this, you are braver than I am. I have become gun shy to tye a pattern with Orange. I dont have a PHd in fish eye sight. ;) (humor)

Great looking fly, like that "halo" effect of the body. 8-) Would be interesting to see the "fish-eye" view when that one's in the water.

Sweet fly! I just bought a bunch of those hooks off of ebay, along with some other vintage Mustad up-eye hooks.
