Another of my favourite flies, great on Grayling, I use it early spring and Autumn.

A grand entrance on your return, Niklas! Beautiful fly. How do you end up with the black/white segmentation?

				Hi all..
Well my friends, i havn´t been that far away.. I have been lurking around to be sure that Martin (Stendalen) is behaving

Cool that you like my fly, I tied it for the first time while Grayling fishing in September 2010 at Idsjöströmmen, Jämtland (Sweden). Was fishing a Grayling Steel Blue, you know the dryfly. The fish was kind of just fooling around with the fly, In that moment I came up with this little thingy, tied a couple during the evening and tried it the day after, and it worked. This is now one of my top 5 flies, mostly tie it in sizes 14-18. Tied some for my friend Lars -Åke Olsson to try in Montana, and yes... it worked fine there on the wild Rainbow Trout aswell, those were much smaller though tied him a batch of size 20-22.
Well then..
Hook: R50X old name 94845, barbless version of the R50 or 94840.
Thread: Orange Pearsalls (also tie it with red thread)
Tag: The thread
Body: Stripped Peacock quill/one layer of laquer.
Hackle: Feather from the wings om the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)
Head: Thread/one layer laquer
Evening
Niklas

				Niklas Dahlin, Howdy;
Thanks for the 'back-story' on the orinins of the fly and
the recipe. Gives it a more personal feeling.
How in the World do you get the quills to behave
for the 20's & 22's ?????

Hi Hank
Thanks.. Well Hank if you just take it easy and use the thinner part of the quill than if you were working on a bigger fly. On the picture below the upper one is tied on a 94845 #18 and the one underneath is tied on a #22, older version of the 94845 if remember wrong..
Later
Niklas
