Bill,
This is way too cool! What a great pattern! Gambels quail is becoming quite the bird and rightly so! There is alot of different feather variations on just one bird. Amazing!
Keep'm coming,

Bill, this is a nice one. I like to use fox, although I don't often put it to use. Did you chop the length of the staple for use on the Clark's block or just use such a sparse amount that you ended with this result. It's a nice effect, especially with the beacons of contrast on the ends of the hackle and the tippet. This should really dance.

Beautiful tie, Bill. The Quail accents all the rest just right.

Bill,
If anyone asks whether fly tying is an art or a craft, this proves it is an art—one aimed to please both fish and angler.
Employing those black tips from two different birds is genius.

Thanks all. William: the red fox fur was cut from a patch, chopped up with scissors into lengths of approximately 1/4", and mixed, originally for use in a dropped loop. I had some of it left in a little plastic bag and one day when I was making up cards of various brushes on a block, I used it up.

Did you remove the grayish underfur prior to chopping or did it all get mixed together? Love the look, think im going to have to duplicate.
