Hook - Daiichi 1870, Size 12
Thread - Griffith Sheer Cinnamon
Abdomen - Tannish Hare's Ear Blend in a dropped loop
Thorax - Dark Hare's Ear Blend (I'd call it "Charcoal"), there is a "tag" of Pearl? Holographic Tinsel between the
Abdomen and start of the Thorax, not really all that noticible.
Hackle - Feather from Cock Ringneck Pheasant, see other picture.

One of my favorite feathers on these birds. That is an awesome use of it.
Do you have a particular use in mind for these?

Rodger - I think you have found a perfect substitute hackle for prairie hen. Doug sent me some last year and I have used all but a few of them. The hackle looks very very similar, after it is tyed and wrapped. Sorry for the distraction.

Beautifully swimmy fly.

Great color combination...what's the thought behind the holo tinsel?

Used the tinsel to try and add a bit of flash, instead of a bright tag at the butt end. Doesn't show up very well, though. Will have to work on that a bit more. Maybe a different color tinsel or material.
I used those feathers cuz I have a bunch of them, normally look too large for a #12 straight shank hook, but look ok on these. Also been playing around with using over-size feathers on smaller hooks. I like these feathers, and would like to use them on shorter shank hooks, like Daiichi 1640's.

Hard to say with the tag, depends how the fish see it more than we see it. I have "experimented" with a holographic tinsel loop between the abdomen and thorax before. Kind of like a wing bud or hydro-fuse bubble sitting proud of the body and under the hackle. More visual than a wrapped tag- but maybe too visual?

Nice feathers and well done finding a hook/pattern to use them on.

Love the fly, and all the material choices. Pheasant is such a wonderful bird to have in your tying box.

How do you envision fishing that? I'm guessing from the name you might be using an active retrieve. Is that correct?

Very cool--I like the idea of putting elements of traditionally constructed flies in unexpected places... :)

Bob - Yes, I think an active retrieve would get some takers. Haven't had a chance to test it, though. Was thinking more towards still water when I tied it.
