Nice selection of materials there Hans.

Tied down to size 18 or so it would be a very fine pattern for the Pomahaka........
Nice use of the JC feather bases, seems such a shame to see those often tossed aside after the enamelled eye has been used.

Hans, this really is a nice little pattern and I love the hackle. Seems right, depending on it's mobility and I haven't seen it used for softies I don't believe. If anyone has a used up jungle cock skin, missing all the nails but holding these feathers...I'd be interested. They seem to cover a gap, or offer something unique. Useful to say the least and beautifully done.

I have seen tha hackle used before, not dyed though, that was a cool addition. William, from what little experience I have with JC and probably rather low grade cape sections I have, the hackle could perhaps be described as "Henny" like. As so far as cock hackle goes the mid to bottom of the JC is fairly soft in the barbs and makes a nice semi-soft hackle. The further toward the base you go the softer the barbs and the very base you would normally strip away is still a useful collar wrap hackle material, very soft an flumey but not as dense as some bases on Hen hackles.

I received the dyed feathers from a friend in Ireland. She uses them as hackles on wet Greenwells patterns, and also as wings on Green Peter style patterns.
