Kebari's

I played around quite a bit this summer with tenkara fishing. I tried a lot of patterns, some mine and some others. Tenkara is supposed to be uncomplicated even down to the number or style of fly you fish. This isn't necessarily so in the U.S. where the "more is better" tends to be the consensus. Anyway, I tried to narrow my tenkara flies down in style and pattern. This is what I came up with. Of all my patterns for tenkara, these three (they just happen to be the same style) for whatever reason, confidence, style of fishing, type of water etc... on down the line, where my best producers. I have been using the Klinkhammer hooks for a lot of my tenkara flies and really like them for this type of fishing. The profile lends to the shape of fly I want, they hook and hold very well and are nice and light to cast. These 3 flies are are to me a type of flymph. The bodies are premade the same as a flymph. The hackle is only reversed. They are fished as an emerging insect. I wouldn't call them flymphs, because they do already fit the Sakasa Kebari style. The light colored one is dubbing from Jeff (Mataura Mayfly) and came as labeled angora ram's wool. It was a beautiful creamy color mix with some rootbeer brown. Both colors were very translucent. Jeff, I may have to work out a trade for some more. All three have a fine pearlescent tinsel rib.
