Bob - Is that a very dark wax? How is it different than cobblers wax? I have not see the Veniards tying wax. Care to share a photo?

It is pretty much cobbler's wax.

Here's a link to Veniard's ad for it:

http://www.veniard.com/product2977/section9/

If you already make your own wax, there's no real point in looking for it, but if you don't, it's easily available over the net and only costs about $3. It's slightly less tacky than some homemade stuff I've used, but I find it excellent for darkening silk.

Interesting. I have seen that photo before and thought the product was just straight bees wax. Thanks for the link.

I am positive of one thing. I could not pick a favorite out of any of the three Olives. I wouldn't even try. It has almost gotten politically incorrect to say that I am sure that any of those would be consistent fist getters. Any of those three would be fish getters on my local streams.if the fish were taking the dark dun, in my eyes that would be the prettiest pattern of the three. My taste would change like the breeze if the trout suddenly changed their preference for the light dun.

The size 28, posted on this thread is a fine tye as well. I will never be able to duplicate it as I stopped tying anything smaller than a 24 scud hook years ago.

The recipe for the BWO I tied is:
Hook: #28 TMC 518 (Not Daiichi, sorry my mistake)
Body: Benecchi 12/0 Dark Dun
Thorax: Mole Dubbing
Hackle: Collins Hen Hackle Dun

I got the TMC hooks and Collins Hen Hackle at the International Fly Tying Symposium in Somerset, NJ. It was an amazing experience to attend and it was nice meeting a couple of people from this forum.

Wayne - I hope you, and your three amigos are going to have a good day. Dang nice flies. The one with the grizzly hackle is my favorite. All three are keepers.

Crisp photos, by the way. ;)

Izaak, you have been absolutely stunning me with these flies lately. Outstanding, just OUTSTANDING...I'm grinning from ear, to ear.
