Going for the traditional flymph here with a dark dun hare's ear dressing. Experimenting with some darker patterns.

Hook: Mustad #14
Thread: Pearsall's silk, purple
Tail: dark dun hen fibers
Rib: fine gold tinsel
Body: very dark hare's ear dubbing on purple silk in Leisenring strand
Hackle: dark dun hen

Great looking fly, is it going in the cold water soon next year for Steelies?

I wasn't planning it for steelies. But I usually cross over at some point. I will usually pop it up to a #8 and add Coq de Leon hackle.

I really like this one. It is similar to what I am doing. This fly ought to do well for you Old Hat, just about anywhere.

That's really what I was after. A general dark pattern with a little personality.

Handsome pattern Carl. I love the hook. The curve of the barb adds a lot of character to the fly.

I really like this one, Carl. You have done a great job with the hackle, and I am always attracted to flies using Pearsall's #8. On top of that, the photo is exceptionally sharp.

Ray- I don't fish a lot with these particular hooks. I will usually tie one or two on the classic hook then the rest on others. I just love the shape of these hooks for photographing and they have that classic flymph appeal to them.

Bill - Thanks. I tried out a new lighting arrangement for this one and the bicolor spider. Worked pretty good, still need to get a little more light reflected up from the bottom. Just another one of those hobby things.

Carl, which model Mustad is that? Have you modified (bent up the eye) any?
I like the look of them and will freely admit to fishing vintage Mustad hooks complete with the "harpoon" like barb, apart from being a little dull on the points, they are a very good hook for most my conditions.

The silk really kicks in this photo, almost like hot-spot triggers. Nice pattern, well tied and very well presented.

I think that one is an old 94842 up-eye dry hook.
