This is tied as a steelhead pattern based on Nemes' Red and Black Dun.

I used a non-brand head cement which I don't like. It initially dries glossy but goes dull after about a week or two. Weird.

Hook: Ken Sawada Old Limerick Wet #8
Thread: Black
Hackle: Coq de Leon saddle, speckled brown (I use the softer shorter feathers along the sides of the saddle, these usually have a large dark center)
Rib: tinsel, braided, gold
Abdomen: SLF squirrel dub, red faded into black

Lovely swinger Carl! I've incorporated CdL hackle into a number of my steelhead patterns. The barring of the CdL feathers adds a pleasant contrast.

I agree, it just has that nice buggy appeal and a bit of sheen that you don't find in a lot of steelhead hackle.

I don't know from steelhead patterns, Carl, but I do know nice, which this is.
