Thread - 8/0 UNI-Thread (Olive Dun)
Hackle - Starling Hackle (Olive Green)
Body - Ostrich Herl (Medium Dun) - Tyed in by the tip and wrapped forward, over a layer of wet Sally Hansen's "Dries Instantly" clear nail polish.

The hooks were given to me by Mark Romero, but this is the first time I've tyed with them. Thanks Mark. They are a beautiful little hook.

Very, very impressive! Ray, are ostrich tips used because the hook is so small? Your tying technique is flawless in my eye, and the photography is top shelf as well.

Sally Hanson as a base for the ostrich is a great idea. I will use your tip on my next ostrich patterns. Did you not rib because of the cement?

Wayne - The ostrich herl I used have has a distinct taper towards the end, which I wanted to incorporate into the body of the fly. I tyed the herl in, by the tip, at the back of the fly. The tying thread was then wrapped forward in close touching turns, to form a smooth underbody. The thread was then painted with a layer of nail polish, which cements the herl in place after it dries. These flies are dead simple to tye.

They look like fishy little numbers. We'll see what "the fins" think...

Open wraps on the herl?

Bob - Yes, the herl wraps were slightly open, to keep from trapping the fibers. May need to tie some with a wider open spiral, allowing more of the thread underbody shows thru.
