Very cool, VERN-O! I love that dubbing. I got every color the Mad Scientist offers.

DEAR VERN-O,
I HAVE TO ADMIT WHEN I FIRST VIEWED THIS PATTERN, I DIDN'T CARE MUCH FOR IT. BUT, SOMETHING KEEPS DRAWING BACK TO REPEATED VIEWINGS OF IT AND NOW I'M IN LOVE.....YOU GET THE IDEA. THE COLOR OF THE BODY (PEACOCK TINSEL) IS REALLY UNUSUAL AND I BET THIS PATTERN WOULD BE GREAT ON HARD FISHED WATERS. HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO TRY IT YET? ANOTHER INTERESTING FEATURE IS THE SPARSNESS AND SIMPLICITY OF THE PATTERN. IT'S A WINNER!
FORGIVE MY CANDIDNESS ABOUT NOT LIKING IT AT FIRST. I'VE CHANGED MY MIND. KEEP THEM COMING FRIEND.
ALRIGHT, WHO HID MY VICE?

Dougsden,

I greatly appreciate your honesty.....this fly just made sense as I tyed it. Every now and then the light bulb comes on in my head  ....The funny thing when I was first tying it was the thought that it needed a huge dark hackle to make it look leggy.....but I had the CDL sitting there and said lets try it.....so glad I did, I think the thorax makes it plenty leggy and the soft dun color in the hackle covers the bases for caddis and mayfly imitation....i haven't had a chance to fish it for trout yet, but it's pure insanity on warmwater and panfish.

This was in the same time period (close your eyes...non softhackle content)

Hi, VERN-O
I love it, too. When you say "peacock tinsel", and I assume you are using only one strand, what product are you using?
Thanks,
Joe

It's peacock colored tinsel for the wing case on the copper john and peacock colored tinsel for the soft hackle.....I believe it's put out by UNI products......peacock green one side copper on the other.

and yes just a single strand

Thanks, VERN-O. I didn't know UNI made that color in the Mylar Tinsel.

I mostly tie 16's, 18's, and a few 20's. What size of that tinsel would you guys recommend? AND.....where did you get it?
Thanks,
Joe
