The Lazy Spider

Here’s a one-hit wonder. I tied it, fished it with great success one trip, and have hardly a bite with it since that unforgettable May day. I always fish two, one dropped off the bend of the hook of the lead fly. This Lazy Spider caught nearly all of the fish, and I changed the trailing fly just out of curiosity. Anyway, I called it Lazy because it had to be swung as slowly as possible. Everything was dialed in that day, and I thought, I need to fish this every time. But, I have hardly caught a fish with since that day. Here it is: size 14, olive tapered thread body, little ball of reddish dyed possum, and a deep reddish-brown speckled feather from a partridge wing for the hackle (my favorite of the entire partridge).

Can't imagine why that doesn't work more often. Reminds me of an olive bodied caddis that appears in early summer on my home water.

Tied a bit smaller, I suspect they'd work as a cress bug imitation in one of the spring creeks I fish regularly.
