Here is a simple fly from an Old Timer fly tyer up in the Wallowa mountains of Oregon by the name of George. I never met George but he was a fishing buddy of one of my fishing buddies decades ago. I don't know if George came up with the idea for this trout fly but I had fished the Burlap Steelhead pattern before I saw one of these and loved this on first sight.

I tie it on a Mustad 9672 #8 with tan monocord, Natural Brown Saddle Hackles and a strand of Burlap.

This has been a great fly in lakes, ponds, and rivers. Trolled or with a hand twist retrieve in still water, I think it may represent a tan damsel nymph or just opportunistic food. It also works for me as a golden stonefly nymph. I also tie them weighted. I have not had a burlap sack around for some time but 1/3 yard of burlap fabric set me back a whole 93 cents this morning at a fabric and craft shop.

No doubt George is long gone but but his fly lives on in my fly boxes.

Bill - Great fly pattern and I enjoyed reading your description. I have some burlap buried away in my stack of materials. Need to dig it up.
