Bill - I love your creative sourcing of materials. WWII blanket... You don't see that everyday. Great fly!

I'm stumped by the name. Why did you call it a "Martini Flymph". Is it because the body is olive?

You got it Ray!

After a long drive last fall from Eastern Oregon, just before dinner I was washing and drying my father in law's old Army blanket from my old pickup truck during the cocktail and fly tying hour at "Camp Roadkill" in Central Oregon. As I cleaned out the dryer lint trap I decided to make an Olive Drab flymph.

OK, I had a material to touch dub a body. What about the tail? It had to be red to make an olive stuffed with pimento. ;) That led me to think of a Martini Flymph. An onion was missing on the hook garnish so I thought of some of my prior material dying with onion skin and came up with the yellow hackle to finish the fly. :)

Roadkill, Howdy;

Great fly, nice background story. Only question remaining to be answered is ...
Shaken or stirred?

Obviously Shaken for a dry Martini, then swing it again! ;)

Love the lifelike glossiness & shade of the blanket lint. Brilliant.

Thanks Steve!

I think many modern tiers ignore the value and availability of wool. After all it was a proven staple in historic wet fly tying. A trip to a yarn shop can set you up for blending your own dubbing and giving it away for years. ;) :lol:
