Had a couple ideas for a fly using salmonberry silk thread. I haven't seen too many patterns using the salmonberry color.

First fly - partridge hackle, salmonberry Pearsall's gossamer silk ribbed with primrose and a thorax of mole and seal.

Second fly - partridge hackle, salmonberry thread and touch dubbed with mole and seal.

Both are beautiful flies as usual. I like the counter rib on the first one. Is that touch dubbing on the second?

Why not scale the top one up to a salt-friendly size 2 and see how it flies as an improvisational shrimp/crab pattern?

Good idea Swellcat - However, won't be using my Pearsall's silk for a body on a #2. But I do have pink flosss.

I am particularly taken with the first one, Carl -- impeccable spacing on your segmentation. If memory serves me from the thread of Peasrsall's colors dry and wet, side by side, wet Salmonberry looks to be a dead ringer for a red spinner abdomen. How about if you changed the ribbing to dull gold wire and the hackle to light dun hen?

Carl.. the first fly is strikingly similar to the German Brown searching fly I sent you this week.... the original by Allen McGee called for red and gold tinsel with a black wire rib...my variant was red and silver...not quite the same color as that beautiful salmon silk, but I like your version a lot.
I won't be able to test my fly any time soon, my river is crushed at the moment...the Crooked is flowing over 3000cfs...fishing will be ruined for months there.

Carl - Would you mind adding the detailed patterns for each of these flies?

Bill I actually thought about going with the gold rib and partridge dyed dun on that one. Will have to give it a go. Would be a cousin to the Tups.

Ron, the fish will still be there. I remember back when it blew out bad one year and everyone thought it was going to be bad. Water was high for a while but it recovered quickly once the water started to drop. Cool thing is the bed changes and there are new features to explore.
