Golden Buffalo Flymph

Post by Roadkill » Sun Nov 17, 2019 10:58 am

I created this fly at the 2019 Northwest Fly Tyers Rendezvous. Earlier in the week I was about to put away a Ringneck Skin that I had put in freezer quarantine, but looking at the beautiful copper/golden feathers on the bird I decided to create a caddis flymph to tie for the show. I love the fall when the October Caddis and a tan caddis can be emerging at the same time. The skin went into my show tying box.

But what about the dubbing? Bazzer69's post about the weirdest tying material had me thinking about materials like the pot bellied pig bristles I used to make a pig midge, or dog hair flies from New Zealand (or my own dogs), etc....
The image of my buffalo dubbing came to mind so I blended Aunt Lydia's Gold Rug Yarn with it on the day before the show to make a Golden Buffalo. It may be the hybrid when the Tan and Oct. caddis mate. ;)

Wow! I love how nicely the hackle compliments the body. It has "steelhead" written all over it! ;)
