What Carl said, Norm. Each and every one beautifully dressed. I am especially fond of the peacock bodied flies, simply because I think trout love peacock bodies.

If I could only have one flavor of Soft Hackle it would be hen Brown. Even over Partridge

What about them? Brown hen has produced better for me than all other feathers combined for over 30 years. It isnt exotic. It isnt cool. It just works. Your experience is probably quite different.

That's interesting. I fish brown hackles, I don't think my vest has ever not had at least a leadwing coachman in it for the last half century, and I make a point of teaching the brown hackle peacock in the tying classes I teach.
OTOH, flies tied with them haven't been the consistent producers for me over the years that flies tied with partridge have been. I can always count on the latter to produce a fish or two, even if others flies are a better choice. The former seem to be more in the "feast or famine" class -- I either take the skunk on them or I have a really good day -- there's no in between.
Something else I found interesting was that I had a very hard time finding a brown hen cape at the International Fly Tying Symposium the other day. I think I looked at every hen neck in the place, and only found one that was plain brown. I don't know how to read that: does nobody buy them or do they sell so many that the can't keep a large stock?

I agree. The grouping is an excellent way to display flies. It shows off the consistency of Norm's tying.

I agree. The grouping is an excellent way to display flies. It shows off the consistency of Norm's tying and Dubbin's as well, since he often posts groupings.)
