I was thinking about some of the lighter small caddis and stone flies found during the summer months here in the Catskills and ran across this pattern in A Handbook of North Country Trout Flies by Roger Fogg. I will give it a go this coming season. This pattern just screams translucency to me.
Tom ;)

Hook. Daiichi 1480 size 14.
Silk. Pearsalls Gossamer Primrose.
Body. Primrose well waxed to a greenish yellow shade.
Abdomen. Pale Olive seals fur.
Hackle. Mottled yellow feather from the marginal coverts of a Golden Plover.

Tom,

I wish I had a couple of these in my fly box last year. This would have been the perfect pattern to try in that stretch below the bridge, where we first met. These should work well.

I think you are 100 percent correct Ray that is a very good spot for that type of activity and in the faster water up above. That is stonefly water.

This one would most likely be very good in some smaller streams where I have been skunked. I blamed my dog since I had her leashed to my left hand while trying to fish. It didn't work that well. This fly would have made a difference. I like to think so, at least. Very nice.

Tom, Elegant dressing. It made me think about rereading the book. It's the second book that Donald Nicholson told me about (the first being Modern Trout Fly Dressing by Roger Woolley.) Donald insisted I go to Coch-y-Bonddu Books web site and buy it immediately. Apparenty, some bookstore had found a case of them, unopened. Since they were new, unsold books, they had to sell them for the original price, 9 Pounds 50. They sold out quickly, but I got my copy. The next day the used ones were still selling for close to $100.

I think I may have to add that fly to my box as well. Thanks for dredging up a fond memory of an old friend.
