Jim Leisenring's Iron Blue Nymph, tied by him

This fly was mounted in the framed set of 22 favorite flies that Jim Leisenring gave to Charley Rethoret, the proprietor of Hotel Rapids in 1941. The set was in the collection of Bernie Pociask who kindly let me scan them.

In “The Art of Tying the Wet Fly”; Pearsall’s #13 is named claret but other books call #13 crimson and #14 claret. Some fly recipes in the book say crimson or claret and others specify one or the other. Lance, how do you deal with the confusion (or is there any)?

I've simply interpreted it as an either/or choice. Both being acceptable.

Here's a quote from a letter that Jim wrote to Pete in November, 1940, while they were finishing up the book:
Now when you go to Nolls to exchange the hooks get me two spools of Pearsalls fly tying silk (colour Claret or Maroon) no other now I dont mean red and send it up to me I dont have an inch of it—and you need it for Iron Blues to tye with and spin your mole bodies.
Evidently, for the Iron Blue Dun, Jim liked the darker red, not the brighter one.

I presume "Nolls" was a store that sold fly tying material and/or sporting goods. Does anyone know
the details and location?

Roadkill started tying 60 years ago with a similar fly tying kit! Noll's had a 15 page instruction book vs. my 4 page instruction sheet.
