Thread - 6/0 UNI-Thread (Red)
Tag/Rib - Button Hole Silk Thread (Fawn/Tan)
Abdomen - Three strands of Peacock Herl (Natural)
Thorax - Wool Ease Yarn Dubbing (Walnut/127)
Hackle - Hungarian Partridge (Dyed Dark Blue Dun)
Optional Variations:
- Add a single strand of yarn, hanging out over the eye of the hook. This can be dressed with floatant, to create a suspended pattern to fish in the surface film. Sometimes it is nice to have a dark colored sight post, when there is a lot of glair on the water.
- Add roughly 1/3rd of a strand of yarn, hanging out the back end of the hook. This will serve as a tailing schuck. Again, to give a little more movement to the fly, and offer fish some options.
The inspiration for the fly came from the fly in the Flymph Forum logo (above). I've often looked at that logo and wanted to create a fly pattern that matched the profile. Although this is not a flymph, it could easily be adapted into a flymph version using all yarn dubbing. I just liked the look of the peacock herl body better.
