Hi there,
Tied up these as a result of Philip's thread here:
http://www.flymphforum.com/phpBB3/viewt ... ?f=6&t=990

Mainly because i didn't have any heron herl, and I fancied a play. :)

Purple Bloa

Kamasan B405 hook #14, purple silk - well waxed, dun genetic hen hackle, silk lightly dubbed with mole, bit thicker at thorax. Gold rib.

Goose and Purple

Kamasan B405 #14, purple silk - well waxed, dun hen hackle, the body, I think it is a shoulder feather from a canada goose... I think. One I picked up anyway. Three barbs spiralled along the body, and a couple more turns at the thorax, and thorax then fortified with a touch of mole. Fine gold rib.

Might get these wet today, if the dark olives are about!

Andrew.

Nice Glassjet.

Its the end of our season (30 April and its all over) and a later season hatch occurs in the afternoon. I'll whip up a couple of the first one in #16 this evening (I'll use Spur Winged Plover for the hackle) and see how it does tomorrow and/or Tuesday.....

Well I got out for an hour earlier and the Goose and Purple did the business for me! :) Fished it on the point, with a single dropper, put on a Waterhen Bloa but that picked nothing up.

But the GaP had four, and three of those were in slow moving water, so they weren't just snatching at something flying by!

Dark Olives were on the water, not in profusion, but they were there. Beautiful day here in the Peak District, and today is the day the little stream opposite me officially switched on! :D Went out yesterday and it was as dead as a door nail.

Didn't have time to fish the other fly btw - I'd be still out now if I didn't need to fix my Landrover

So cheers Philip - one for me to play around with this season. :)

Andrew.
ps - should have added - the water was absolutely gin-clear as well... there is nothing quite like catching a fish on your own fly, is there?

Now Andy you are just a tease. But a very good one at that. I do like the flies and shows what must be unlimited opportunities.
Now here is my March Brown;
The rib is Rhea feather (ribbed with copper wire) but you could use pale turkey or even Condor substitute.

lol! Don't worry Philip - I always quote my sources... ;)

Actually I was really pleased with the way that worked out this morning. Today was the first day I've got out when I reckon I have had a fighting chance of catching with these soft hackles since I started reading / posting on this forum, so the first day I feel I was fishing soft hackles 'properly'. So I am not complaining. :) Wish I had had longer, but, the Landrover called and now has a new fuel lift pump, and goes like the proverbial up hills...

What colour silk is that? I can feel a: "Goose and [ENTER YOUR SILK COLOUR HERE] " coming on... ;)

Not half bad - for rip offs :D Your'e in trouble now Philip, I'll be hiding behind bushes learning how you fish em, Glassjet will be at the other end of the phone , in front of the vice ready to tie them.

The sky is a very strange colour to-day - blue I think it is. Recall seeing similarly coloured skys about 6 months ago. No rain forecast for a week ,,,, a whole week, 7 days and 7 nights - its hard to believe. Hopefully the trout will start to disperse and move into the streams, fly life will go about its business and we can get down to some serious fishing.

Went out Saturday, and as I said, dead as a door nail. Odd thing was, there was loads of fly life about, but in an hour and a half, not a single sign of fishy life anywhere. I would have put money on catching at the beginning of that session. Then suddenly, yesterday, it is game on, and it just seems to come alive. Hope it is like last year - late to start again, but once it did, had a superb season... :)
