This is a very recent tye.....just a few days ago. The hook is nothing special.....just a 7/0 and the bead is bout a 10 cent plastic bead from Walmart.....the fly was a LOT of fun. The eye is made from pure white dacron fly line backing.....i love usin' the stuff for eyes. It takes dye (Sharpie ink), VERY well. Although in this case i did not dye it. i did the head in little dabs of black here and there.....the thread is primrose Danville 6/0.
i stumbled opon something new by accident with this fly.....(GOTTA love it).....i first did a butt using black saddle hackle.....the long skinny genetic stuff you use for dry flies. Nothing usuaual there as i use that stuff for butts somewhat often. But, then i decided i was going to put a regular black Ostrich herl butt in front of that. Well, because i'm out of Zap-a-Gap, and couldn't find any clue.....my bead was slipping a bit as i tyed forward of it. So, at some point it got pushed back further than i wanted it to be.....and now i'm SOOO glad it did. The Ostrich herl got pushed "into" the saddle hack barbs, and the effect is marvalous.....you need to see it in hand to realy appreciate it.....but it's now a technique i can use over and over again when i want to. i can use white or any color i want with the saddle hackle, and then "blend" the Ostrich into it, in the same manor this happened by accident...........YES!!!!!
