There's an old pattern called the Carrot Nymph.....i use to tye them and fish for Brookies with it. Works great, but a Brookie will take anything orange. Your fly/tye there is fantastic. ;)

I am completely "gobsmacked" by the fly and photo Karsten. You've raised the proverbial "bar". Incredible... ;)

Cheers everyone, I had a lot of fun with this one.
I'll let the trout or grayling be the judge of it's edibility on my next outing. ;)

There are few things I'd change after looking at the photo's. For one I would taper the body a bit in the next fly and iron out some of the lumps in the body :oops: . Macro photography shows everyting, but hey it's all fun as far as I'm concerned...

Skues devised a Carrot Nymph as a joke many years ago, trouble was it actually caught fish.
I don't know if this is the one Mark used, but here is the recipe.

Carrot Nymph.

Hook: Size 14 - 16.
Silk: Primrose silk.
Tail: Green parrot feather-fibres or substitute.
Tag: Four turns of tying silk.
Body: Rear third - pale yellow wool, middle third - hot orange wool,
thorax - greenish seal’s fur.
Hackle: Short fibred olive-green hen.

I made some Carrot Nymphs a good while back. Your fly made mine look just plain UGLY....lol. I love the version you have tied here. Two thumbs up!

Thanks for the recipe Donald. I don't have the materials to tie it so I'm glad Ray has beaten me to it :D
Here's Ray's rendition of the pattern description shared by Donald;
