Yes, but not JUST cats, possums hares rabbit feral pigs and deer were on the list. Pretty much anything on the noxious animal list was fair game.
Don't put me on the cat hater list just yet, these were domestic cats that were either abandoned or reverted to wild due to neglect and were breeding unchecked whilst feasting on all the easy to catch stuff that was more endangered than noxious.
There was a time here in the 1930's when cats were bred and released to help control the plauge of rabbits that were driving honest farmers from their land. Same reason all the nasties like ferrets, stoats and weasles were introduced.
We are still paying for the consequences of these foolhardy stop gap solutions.
Hank, shot thousands of rounds through a 10/22, but never took a shine to the model. Could never get used to the trigger after using European rifles, still felt like the safety was on you had to apply that much pressure to make them go bang! They still have the BEST magazine bar none in a .22lr, especially in a heavy use autoloader. For pest control and an all around package I find it hard to go past the Remington 597.
Sorry for the hijack, anybody wants to know more or bash me for harming the odd cat now and then can PM me.
