Had a few minutes last night

Post by SenecaLaker » Tue Aug 30, 2016 3:04 pm

Got off work late, didn't feel like doing any house chores and the wife and kids were gone for the evening. So.... i grabbed the vise and sat down and and leafed through my supply of things i've gathered up to tie with. This is what I came up with.

Hook is unknown size 14 I believe
Thread is Danville's 8/0
Body is a block spun Danville's Yellow 8/0 with Red Fox Underfur
Thorax is 2 Strands peacock
Collar is a Brown Hen

I'm still gathering materials week by week. A few Hare's masks are due to arrive as well as some Hen Capes/Saddles which I haven't decided which ones yet.

I still dig seeing them wet, such a fascinating transformation

Thanks to all of you for the inspirations

Man, that is such a great imitation of a natural insect. The profile is perfect, and the color scheme is very natural. I love seeing the dry/wet photos. As pretty as it looks in the vice, it looks even more impressive in the wet condition. Great stuff! Thank you for sharing with us. I look forward to seeing more int the future.

Are you targeting a specific hatch? I can see this being an excellent sulphur or PMD imitation.

Nicely done!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Yes Ray , I had a Sulphur imitation in mind, but again, with my limited materials , and the go with what you have approach , sometimes " you get what you get" It does seem to also be a good candidate for a PMD as well. I am still experimenting with "How much fur is too much fur on the "Clark Block, I am learning it's probably less than 25% percent than I think i need. It seems that if any more is used, there is no chance to see the thread that was used to make it. Still learning and trying to repeat proper proportions. It has been exciting to learn and read the history and techniques so far. Seems like every time I think I read what is out there on a pattern or technique, I find another fork in the road.

Have you looked at William Anderson's website? His site has some great information about the dubbing brushes. There are also some video links in the tutorial section if your interested. We have video of William and Jim Slattery making dubbing brushes and one showing Bill Shuck tying a flymph.
