There is a good BWO hatch occurring where I fish and I tied the above BWO fly, which worked quite well. The hook is a #17, hackle is blue dunn hen hackle, the body is a blend I make using primarily mole dubbing that is made on a Clark dubbing board with claret silk and the thread used is claret thread.

I like that a lot. We have prolific BWO hatches here. It will come in handy.

Otto,

Thank you for sharing this pattern. It looks like a “capital killer”, as they used to say.

What color mole are you using?

Did you see John’s recent post about his hatch chart? He has links showing BWO, with some great bug reference photos to.

Ray that is natural mole and it is blended with UV ice dubbing and hare's ear. I wanted to use my Clark's dubbing block and it is something I plan on using a lot more. It didn't take as long as I thought it would to make up a few prespun bodies.

Roadkill I have several flies with a silk tag, those are the ones I use for fishing. The fish don't mind if I leave a bit of a tag :)
