I am adding UV resin to the abdomen to some of my Soft Hackles and nymphs.

This size 18 BWO has a tail of CDL and I am using a Whiting 4B hen in Dun for the hackle.

That is a beautiful fly!!

When I want some bling to the body i use a fly Jack Dennis introduced me to years ago. It is John Smeraglio's Smurf Emerger tied with twisted strands of Peacock Krystal Flash It can also have a trailing shuck of Antron. John had a shop in Maupin on the Lower Deschutes. I believe I also remember this fly from a Rick Hafele video of them fishing the Deschutes.

I add a drop of head cement along the body for durability.

tie2fish... my hot spot. is medium dun, mallard wing hackle...thorax is a xsmall, ruby, killer caddis glass bead, with stripped peacock quill body..

Bill here's the image of a #20 TMC 206bl with an oversized mallard covert tied in with the method you've shared for using oversized feathers..

Sorry no macro lens for the iPhone,but the shadow shows a pretty good idea of how effective your method is...

Looking really good! Definitely an underappreciated hackle source. I have used wood duck covert (see below), but will now take a serious look at the mallard as well.

Nice! That’s a lot of hackle.

What type of duck is the ones on top? The ones with the crest. Are they mergansers, or maybe cormorants? They look like they will have some nice dun colored hackle.

Hooded merganser hens. Cormorants are proteced.
