Hamilton's CDC skunk flymph, my way

Post by ronr » Tue Apr 09, 2019 3:15 pm

I'v been working on incorporating skunk fur,(since I have a nice skin), into a flymph/soft hackle. Dave Hamilton's All Skunk nymph is my inspiration for this fly. I think it qualifies as a flymph.
Hook: Fulling Mill all purpose light bronze, size 12
Thread: Dark Brown Uni, 8/0
Tag and Rib: xs gold tinsel
Body: skunk underfur with guard hairs
Thorax: black CDC in dubbing loop
Hackle: Partridge

I love skunk fur. It is very glossy.

Beautiful fly. I bet the CDC will help this fly hang in the surface film, like an emerging insect. Sweet!

Well done. Should be a great small black pattern. That would work great on the high lakes.

Nice fly. I have both a black and white and a red skunk hide there's lots of usable material on them.

Ron, there is always the Green-butt Skunk. Its a great trout pattern as well. I use the black skunk and white for the body and thorax.

Bob - Is that a dyed red skunk skin? Sounds interesting.

Lovely fly, Carl.

Lovely fly, Carl.

No it's a natural red. It's not a dark red but an interesting color. We were visiting friends in OH and we to a flee market and a couple of trappers were selling hides.
