The first time I watched Mark Libertone tying soft hackles and flymphs, he demonstrated the process of making Leisenring spun bodies with this tool. It is a piece of artist board (white on one side/black on the other), cut into a rectangular strip with slots at each end for the waxed silk.
Mark gave this to me, after his tying demonstration. He once had a sketch on his old website showing how he made spun bodies.
I will post measurements later, in case anyone else wants to make their own version.
Anyway, I've been meaning to share this, as a bit of fly tying history and to show a travel size alternate the the dubbing block.

Nice bit of history. I'd like to see the measurements, Ray. Thanks.

I'd like to see the dimensions, too, Ray. Thanks for posting.

This is very interesting! I did not know this tool existed! I have seen similar marks on William Anderson's beautiful spinning blocks. Does anyone else have marks like these on their blocks?
