What color Pearsalls is this?

Post by Theroe » Sat Dec 21, 2019 6:43 pm

Sparked in part by the previous topic “is this Pearsalls 6B?” - what color is this spool that I have? For reference, to the left is a plastic spool of Primrose, and to the right is a wood spool of Primrose. I’ve compared it to the various charts but I can’t come up with a concrete decision. One other thing: this wooden spool is slightly larger than the other old wooden spools.

Thank you ALL in advance,
Dana

I'd guess 6a--hotsy-totsy orange.

Difficult. The wooden primrose has a light greenish tint on my screen, very different from the plastic one. Could be due to reflections from something. Your mystery orange is in between my amber and my hot orange. It changes when I change the angle of the screen. If you send me all your silk I just may be able to help you. I have had several different shades of orange on wooden spools. Different 'sheen' from the silk makes a difference of colour too, to my eyes.

What colour? It's a very nice colour.

I'm leaning toward 6A as well, at least from what my computer screen shows me.

I vote with the 6a (Light Orange, later called Gold) crowd. Hot Orange would be #19. Nice collection of wooden spools!

Checking on another screen, it's clearly closer to 6A, Light orange, than to 19, Hot orange. Closer.

Dana,

How about posting a 3-fly lineup of Partridge & Oranges; 1 tied with 6a, 1 tied with 19, and 1 tied with this spool. It would be interesting to see the colors side-by-side on a classic fly pattern.

Thanks- Ken
