Donald,
As Ma Nature is funny about being able to see the difference 'twixt hims an hers the Cock has brighter colored feathers with the belly being black and a dividing line of white 'tween the 'golden' feathers and the black feathers. The juvie's colors are not as bright as the adult nor are the Hen's though she is more completely covered by the 'golden feathers.
By-the-way, I was of the impression it was the Scots that were tight fisted and the Southeners were just dotty

That was merely my
understanding, perhaps it was a
MISunderstanding.

They probably are dotty, but to refer to Yorkshiremen
as southerners, is really insulting.

Donald, I did not mean to insulting.
It's purely a matter of prospective. For you those that dwell in Kent and Surrey would be Southerners I would imagine.
Those down in the “Brokers Belt”
Ya'll in yorkshire would qualify for anyone North of Hadrian’s wall
respectfully,

Hankaye,
Nobody over here takes this kind of thing seriously,
as if a bunch of 'Yorkshire tykes' gave a damn what a 'bloody Jock'
says about them. Anyway the Northerners, Southerners, Scotsmen,
Welshmen, Edinburgers, Glaswegians, Londoners etc etc ad infinitum
continually snipe at each other.
We had better get back to 'wingless wets' or Softhackle
will be rapping some knuckles.

Donald,
About the snipe you mentioned in your last post, what feathers can be used from it?

Sometimes the humor doesn't relate well on the internet..
Does my heart good to see you posting again.

Donald, I didn't think so otherwise I'd have kept my fingers in their mittens.
Have you ever tried to type in mittins? Sort of like having a gag in one's mouth.
Your correct though. Back to the topic.
I appoligize for the hijack.

Ron,
The feathers normally used (as in the Dark Snipe) are from the marginal coverts of a snipe wing. The problem is that these feathers are joining others in that they are becoming increasingly difficult to get. I have used feathers from a Starling wing at times and the fish don't know the difference.

Thanks, Phillip, but it was said in jest. Theres that bit about humor and the internet not doing well together. I have been fortunate that a couple friends have sent me some snipe wings from the UK in sight unseen trades. Apparently things like really good hen hackle are in short supply there. I sent some hen hackle and got some really nice stuff in return. Oh, I also sent a few Pukeko feathers a mate from NZ sent to me, that may have done the trick.
