I guess I'm more of a silent observer and with that I seldom reply to the efforts shared here. Perhaps if I were a contributor my efforts in this respect would differ. I will say however there is seldom a day that passes that I don't view the work of the very talented group that submit their efforts here and I am indeed appreciative.

Regarding submitted flies I hesitate to discuss durability however as long as Bill was concerned with response I have to wonder about the durability of the palmered heron herl. Please understand this is a really nice looking fly and in the correct sizes may very well be a killer. Perhaps a fine wire to which the herl is spiraled around would add to its durability? What do you all think?

I hope you're kidding. This looks like a fly that I would love, if that makes any sense. I love a lot of flies, but if I were to sit and use my own preferences for the result, I would hope it would resemble this one. Great use of every material and proportions that ring true for me. Have a great time in Wisconsin. Tag a couple big muskies and get a grip and grin pic for sure.

Jerry ~ You are undoubtedly correct about how some sort of reinforcing would improve the durability of the herl on this pattern. I was primarily interested in acheiving the "frilly" gill-like effect of the unfettered herl and gave virtually no thought to making it stronger, since I have no idea yet whether a fish would even eat this . Thank you for taking the time to voice your opinion and pose the question.

As I learned when I Googled "Blae", you make a salient point, Donald: 'tis Scottish for blue-grey or slate gray.

Just stopped in for a few moments.

Never been good at judging colors... that said, on my moniter the whole fly looks like a pair of khaki trousers that have been sat on alot of times.
Kinda shiney like.

Now that dosen't mean anything is wrong with the fly...there isn't ...and I like It ...alot !
Just kinda looks a tad monochronimatic and there ain't nothing wrong there either. Just my 2 pence worth...
