The hooks are based on a couple changes I advised them to make to the L3As. Firstly to straighten the eye and then to shorten the hook-shank length. The original prototypes were right in regards to the hook shank length but the length of hook point and barb were not of the right proportion to match the shank. The photo on the Partridge website is of a fly I tied on the old hooks at least years BFFI. Sadly some light fingered swine stole all my flies tied on the prototype hooks at the same BFFI. The images of the new flies tied on the new hook should be on the partridge website in the next couple of weeks.

"Sneck bend" hooks have a "square" bend;

Lately I have been seeing a lot of references to the hook "Gap", and a few people asked me about it. I have no idea why people started using this term instead of "Gape";
"Bite" or "Throat" refers to a different dimension.
Seems to be an American thing.

i c what you mean Bill.....simply put.....it's a bit ugly.....like a sneck
Being on the Daiichi Pro Team (and i do like&appreciate most all their hooks of course), i prolly shouldn't be that honest. "Just can't help myself."
Perhaps ugly is the wrong word.....(not for a sneck, lmao), "Boring" might be better.......course, that's just my sense of asthetics.....all fishing considerations aside.....
p.s. i actually don't much like the looks of the Partridge model either.....
.....
btw, anyone ever use the Kamasan B220 Black Nymph hook to tye a flymph?

Yeah, up the rebels! That's not the same thing here though, the terms "gap" and gape" refer to different things.
I don't mind at all how you spell various things as long as it doesn't cause confusion. The term "gap" when referring to an eyed hook is this;
and there should not be one there, or at least only a very small one.

It seems we fly tyers enjoy an embarrassment of riches these days. I welcome the fact that the fishing industry is giving us soft hackle addicts some attention. It wasn't very long ago that I was scouring eBay trying to get all of the colors of Pearsall's silk thread and now we can get them readily. Competition has really made the hook makers pay attention to quality and selection. I'm not sure how the two hooks compare but I can't wait to find out. Bill
