What a beautiful tie and pattern, I'll be adding a few of those to my South Island box for sure.
It's great to see that your getting some time behind the vise again, you have been missed, I always look out for your work.
If it wasn't for you and Ray I would never have tried my hand at tying soft hackles and I probably wouldn't have found this site. You've been one of my greatest inspirations and a good friend...

Why the tippets were tied on top I do not know, probably no reason at all.
Mr Kemp and Mr Heddle were fishing in one of the Orkney lochs and noticed
that some small fat brown bees were being taken by the trout. The lochs usually
have a anglers rest hut and they may have gone back and dressed this fly asap.
It was so successful, they probably stuck with what worked. This was in the 1930's
and it became a classic as it is. This is used as a loch fly fished in the traditional
loch style, in a cast of three, from a drifting boat.

Tkx. Donald......we can always count on you for some cool historical info.....actually quite entertaining, as i would imagine for all of us. You can't be into this stuff and not be a history buff. Btw, since i do not have the original to compare it to, and since your the guy to ask, have you seen the new (Stewart on the Wet Fly edited by Paul Shullery) W.C. Stewart book yet? And if so, what do you think of it? Sub-title is Lessons from a Master Technician. Some of the chapters have been ommitted from the original as they were not "fly fishing" oriented.....according to Shullery. i should of known i was gettin' cheated at the price i paid, for a new book at that.
Not to "judge by it's cover".....(and the book is rather small), so i'll know more when i finish it. i'm sure the info that IS there is good. At a mere 114 pages and only 5 chapters............
Just curious as to your thoughts, because i trust you.

No Mark, I have not read this book, I'll see if I can find it, I'll probably buy it,
I always do, I am a born sucker for a Spider book . I will let you know what I think.

Well! I've done it now, just ordered the book from Amazon, seems fairly cheap at that price.
I've had Stewart's book for a very long time and it does have quite a bit on bait fishing, which I gave
up some time ago. Funny!! somebody writing a book on Stewart

I'm beginning to believe there are no more original patterns. This is not to say the Ke-he isn't your original patten, but I've tied something very similar (recently) thinking it was an AH Ha moment. It's a red fox squirrel with a hot orange spot of Antron instead of the z-lon. OR we an think of it like this: Great minds think alike. Now I just have to think of a great mind to ask. ololol As soon as my camera battery arrives I'll shoot a photo of it. And by the way... it's a killer fly idea you had and I stoled. olol Catches fish like a net on a stick.
