where did you get the word 'kenspeckle'

Ha, that's unco speckled hackle, no? and a conspicuous tie at the very least. :) (And it's probably no accident that I've been reading John Buchan's "Witch Wood" this week. He's best known, I suppose, for the novel "The Thirty-nine Steps," but "Witch Wood takes place during the English Civil War...set in Midlothian, if I have my geography right. Great novel, if you've not read it. :) )

I have not read any of John Buchan's work for many years and when I did,
that was not one of them. I shall have to rectify it. :D

Here's a link to his page on Amazon--a dozen or so of his books are available on Kindle, though not "Witch Wood." (I don't know if you have one, but I find my Kindle invaluable since I can change text sizes...much easier to read than "dead tree books these days.") At any rate, he's not a "great" writer, but knows how to spin a yarn, and his descriptions of the Scottish countryside are obviously from a native son. :) (FWIW, his biography of Montrose is fun as well--a bit starry-eyed, no doubt, but he certainly finds the romantic subject appealing.)

I have a Kindle, which I use a lot. There are quite a lot of his books on AmazonUK, including
this. At the moment I have a backlog of books still unread, Dickens etc and a lot of science-fiction.
I'll keep Buchan in mind.

Thanks, guys...it's a great template for playing around, though I'm looking forward to seeing how classic, sparse North Country spiders fish in comparison in a few weeks. :)

Yes, I finally got with the 21st Century this spring when I managed to break both wrists and couldn't hold a "real" book to save my life. There are a tremendous number of classics available for free--or nominal fees--though they tend to be a bit kludgy in terms of navigating through them.
