Mark, I did not know that. I was using Pearsall's! I ordered claret, but don't have it yet. So I am using a red color. I love Pearsall's, but hate the fact I cannot tell what some of these colors are. I thought I had white, and I sent off for grey. I got the grey in, and it looks identical to what I thought white was. They do not mark the color at all. Even if they did their stickers are prone to coming off when you stick them in the bobbin. I wish they would somehow mark the spool. Back to splitting thread...I think my hands just shake too bad for splitting thread. I will try to flatten it the other way, and see if that makes a difference. Thanks Mark!

Gingerdun, that is the photo that made me decide I wanted some of those flies...bad enough to get off my rear and tie them. I didn't take my computer in there so I had an exact photo to go off of though. I notice Pete's fly was rather full with the mole. It almost looks like to me though, that he used a little something with that mole. I am going to do a couple more of these today. I hope to nail one of these babies! Great looking fly in my opinion!!!

Kelly.....i'm just the messenger........i don't have much experience usin' Pearsals at all. i got that info fairly recently from our pal tie2fish.....he gets all the credit. And Kelly, i really do not see what all the hopplah bout splittin' thread is all about anyway..........i mean really, what's the point? i'd much rather use a loop.....easier/quicker/stronger........and the extra thread helps to soak up more water thereby sinking the fly that much better. HELLO! If you a fish, and you got a "Choice" between a buger patty and a T-Bone.........thank you.

Good point Mark. The more I study this fly, the more I see a nymph hook a bit heavier would also be nice to use. I have an old vintage hook, that ought to do the trick. I'm gonna pull them out today, and give 'em a whirl. I wish I had the claret silk, but I don't. Regardless, red will do alright. That dubbing though, is still looking like something else was tossed in there. I'm going to try to improve my flies today. Keep your fingers crossed...hehehe.

In the picture of the iron Blue, in front of the red head there appears to be
something else wound on the hook. Is there some way you could tell us what
it is ? Wax, some other thread, ?????
