Hans,
The features of the Grip that I like are the longer shank before the bend starts, the roundness of the bend, and the much longer, thinner taper of the point. But the Tiemco is very close.

Here is a modified diagram showing the different gapes. The difference between the Grip and Tiemco is negligible.

Hans, I would agree with that. I love these types of posts. I've said before the Daiichi isn't as elegant as the Grip, and GD's pattern illustrates that clearly, but it would hard to complain about any of these three. I was obsessed with the Daiichi 1530 for the past couple years, especially for tying spiders, but I can see just giving in and making another order of these.

GD, thanks for such a cool post and a beautiful fly.

gingerdun,

Nice fly but did you treat the fly with some floatant before dunking it?

I assume your pampered house dubbing on the hoof has been cleaned often-more closely resembling cleaned, tanned and/or dyed furs rather than the fur in the wild with natural oils to repel water. ;) Something like hydrostop may improve the hydrofuge.

Roadkill,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've never used a floatant. Been a little wary of putting chemicals on the flies. I should check the forum to see what discussions have taken place on this topic. Probably about time I look into it.

Little Sam doesn't bathe as often as he should, but even so, his fur does not have much natural oil on it. He has been at the groomers all day for his spring cut and shampoo. Going to pick him up now.

Loved this thread. I liked the dog hair on the fly, and the dog. I have not been able to buy the Grip hook, but I did get a package of the TMC 206BL. Great little hooks, very sharp, but kinda high. I loved the comparison photos. The pic of the pom, and the chihuahua was hilarious, agreed!

I got some great flies from Vicki about 6 months ago. Work very well.
