I would love to see recipes Doug.

To all my family and fans on this forum,
Here's the receipes for each Blue-winged Olive immitation that is pictured above. They are really quite simple.

Starling and Pheasant
Hook: Daiichi #1530 size 14
Body: Appx. 5 ruddy brown fibers from the center tails of a ringneck pheasant.
Wire Rib: Optional. If you do, a very fine gold or copper wire works best.
I didn't on this particular pattern.
Hackle: Starling body feather. Actually, a breast feather works the best because you want to catch as many of the pale, blueish, filmy base feather as you can in the final wrap of the hackle. As it turned out, I almost have too much of the blacker, oily looking fibers found near the top of the feather. I think I will take my chances with this lapse of judgement on these that I have tied! I tied the hackles in by the tip and "folded" the fibers back as I wound the hackle forward!
Thread: Danvilles pale brown 6/0

Starling and Olive
Hook: TMC #102Y size 15 (as with all B.W.O. patterns, the smaller the better!)
Body: Danvilles 6/0 olive tying thread tapered toward the eye of the hook
Body Rib: Pearsalls primrose tying silk. 4-5 turns max evenly spaced to the shoulder
Hackle: Starling, same description as above on Startling and Pheasant
Thread: Danvilles 6/0 olive

As many of you may notice, these are two of the four Baetis or B.W.O. patterns listed in Syl Nemes' great book "Soft-Hackled Immitations". It is my all time favorite of the trilogy of books from him! The other two I am slowly working on are Waterhen Bloa and Blue-Winged Olive. I hope to have them cranked out by the time the Roscoe Rendezvous happens in June!
