The first time I read this thread and saw the "killer bugs" I had the thought that a bigger version would work as a cranefly larva imitation in some of our rivers. One time I saw a bunch of them in the edges of the Yakima River.

Here you can see a sketch made by Frank Sawyer. It seems as if John Shaner's Killer Bugs have this original shape. I have seen different shapes on different hooks tied by mrs Margaret Sawyer. If you compare this one:http://www.flyhookfiller.se/flugor/sawy ... yerkb.html and these: Image

you see what I mean.

The sketch comes from Nick Sawyer's book and I found it here: https://www.smashwords.com/extreader/re ... ng-secrets There you can read a few pages from the book (which I have in a Swedish translation).

If you send me a PM with your address (I have lost it), I will send you bright and dark fine copper wire to experiment with. Your bugs look fine to me. The darker wire might give some of the effect of the synthetic fibre in Chadwick 477...

Bill
I had some Shetland Oyster yarn arrive today and the first killer bug was tied up for a "look-see".

This one is a prototype. I used 8/0 thread as that's all I had (in the head color I wanted). Next one will be with 3/0 and I'll take a picture of that one.

Actually I won't be able to post it as this board has a size limit of 256K and my pics are considerably larger. My photo resizer doesn't work any longer as I upgraded our operating system and it doesn't support the resizer.

I had some of the winged wet flies I tied but couldn't post them.

Do you have PhotoBucket? That is what I use.
