Very nice build. I have a few Lami's I've built too. I really like the buttery smooth casts. Pair it up with a good furled leader and you'll be hooked on 'glass.

I took this rod out fishing on Sunday for the first time and it casts beautifully. Very smooth! I loved how easily this rod handled roll casts, regular casts, double-hauls, etc... It laid the line right out without much effort. I was actually using a 6 weight line, but it didn't seem to cause a problem at all. I need to buy a 4 weight line to see what difference it makes in casting performance.

Best of all, I caught LOTS of course fish (smallmouth bass, rock bass, black bass and even a bluegill) and it was a joy to see the deep bend in the rod when the fish had some size to them. This rod is going to quickly become one of my favorites.

Ray, I am very jealous! Good looking rod. Hope that thing lasts you a long time.

Bob (redietz) - I followed your suggestion and got myself a new Medalist reel and new 4 wt line. I think it looks nice on the glass rod.
I am still trying to make up my mine about the 4 wt line. It may be my imagination, but I think I liked the casting action a little better with the 6 wt line. I need to fish this for a while to see if it just takes a little getting used to. I caught a nice trout with it on its first trip to the creek, so overall I'm happy.

Very nice Ray, reminds me of my very first fly rod (which I made myself and was no way near yours) ona Fenwick glass blanks. I made a promise that I would not buy a rod until I had caught at least one trout. Took me two years and that was on an Alexandra in a flooded river. You see, there were no forums around then, fly fishermen were scarce in Australia and the books were written as thoguh we were in the 19th century.
Oh how time goes by.
Tell you what though, I would run a Terenzio (www.terenzio.com) artificial silk line through it and using a 4.5 weight which he makes.

To Holland not too much, but I order mostly 5 or 10 lines for my flyfishclub also and some hooks or other tying material and pay something like 4 pound.

It seems reasonable. I could probably double it to North America to be safe. It would be nice to get a few tapers to experiment with.
