I bought several "bulk" spools of the florescent thread, not quite the bulk of the infamous orange yarn...... but more than would fit any bobbin holder I own. So I did wind some orange onto an old spool to fit and subsequently lost the name. I will dig out the other colours and get the name of the maker.
This thread really pop's under black light, but is a cotton sewing thread, not a specialised tying thread.

I have some vintage Plum coloured silk that is asking (nay- begging) to be used in place of the purple. Might have to try mixing up the florescent colours as well.

Nice ties Jeff and well done on getting fish in these difficult conditions.
I too will own up to not having tied "hot spots'.

Yes, but Tim, unlike the Chimp, you simply toss this one underwater and it is "out of sight- out of mind" and you do not have to admit to yourself you are fishing such an abomination!

Nice workhorse flies. I've always thought of a hot spot as a sort of soft-hackle attractor pattern. There is a long tradition of that in our sport, ask any salmon fisher. To think that the imitative approach is somehow superior to the trigger approach is laughable, & diminishes the most creative branch of our sport, I think. And it should be said that pre-spawn trout develop fanciful tastes, just as salmon & steelhead. Happy circumstance for creative tyers. Your baits are good to look at & yer catching fish. Carry on smartly sir.

Found one surviving spool of thread still with label/wrapper. It is made in China for an Australian firm, Birch haberdashery & craft. It is not cotton, but 100% spun polyester.
I have three different florescent colours in 1000M spools...... so plenty of hot spots to be had.
