Same here. I'm sorry I'm just chiming in here. Thanks so much for posting these early efforts. It will be fun over the years (or days in your case) to see the progression towards what you're imagining. This will work like a charm. I'd fish that all day.

A couple thoughts, if you care for a suggestion. What size hook are you tying on? I know materials work best in their designed purpose, but starting on a big #12 will help you find the proportions and desired effect which will very quickly translate to smaller sizes. This rib still seems large for this fly, but not an issue. Some softies are tied with tinsel only and bling can be a remarkable element in the right conditions. In my opinion the hackle length is great, the tail length dead on and the bump is a very nice touch. Nice work all around and a pleasure to see this. Thanks again.

This was tied on a #14 Orvis dry. Does anyone use XS ultra wire for ribbing? Thanks for the encouragement.

Hey Doc, I'll post a few options just for your consideration. This is a fine wire, larger than xsmall uni-wire but smaller than small uni-wire.

Check this thread. Eric used a very fine wire rib, and if you scroll down you'll see I've used a fine rib on some and a small uni-wire on a few. The difference should be obvious. Sometimes for added bling I'll use a slightly larger wire like a few of these.

This might be helpful. The top fly is ribbed with very fine silver wire. The second has no rib at all, and the third is a small tinsel rib. The width of tinsel can be subjective. Sometimes you just have to try a few.
