I'm intrigued by Tenkara and eventually will get a rod.
What puzzled me when trying to read your post while my wife was talking to me was the passage about Misako being over 400 years old. I had to re-read and then found out what had happened. I'm lousy at multi-tasking...

Tomorrow I will be taking the new Iwana out for a spin. The Iwana is 11 ft compared to my AYU which is 13 ft. The Iwana is also a little stiffer than the Ayu. I have not tied any Tenkara type flies yet but they are on my to do list.

Tenkara flies are not difficult to dress.
A lot of them are reverse hackle flies. If you can tie a simple
soft-hackle spider, you can tie Tenkara style flies.
They are very similar to Italian Alpine Flies, and are not very
sophisticated or difficult.
About four years ago, I put an article on Italian Alpines on my Web-site, and since
then I put an article in, on Reverse Hackle flies after seeing an article in FAOL
about them by Preston Singletary.

Hook: 12-18 TMC 2487.
Body: Olive Pearsall’s silk.
Hackle: Starling, tied in with the concave side of the hackle towards the eye.
I thought I might as well post one now.

Wrong Vicki. My wife, Vickie, usually uses VEE as her handle, or Vickie Eagle Elk.
The Sowbug is out for us this year. We are house hunting, Central Idaho or Western Montana areas, so traveling takes a back seat to house hunting. Tying shows will be close to home this year. Idaho Falls is about as far as we can go.

i was wondering if there were two Vicki's on this board.
Now i get it. Tkx., for clearing that up. See you guys in Idaho Falls in April. We're gonna do Boise as well, (in Jan.), a week after we finish The Fly Fishing Show in Denver. So maybe see you there. We're definately skippin' the west coast in 2011.............tryin' to keep it to no more than a dozen events a yr.....at least until we get the Roscoe house sold. You guys take care and good (all the best of) luck with the house hunting. i LOVE the Livingston area of Montana.........you've got somewhat mild winters there.....compared with the other side of the pass....the spring (Nelson's, DePuys, Armstrong's), creeks in Paradise Valley and Mill Creek.....the Yellowstone, the "Park" (Lamare, Soda Butte, Slew), just an hour away.....the Gallatin and East Gallatin less than an hour away and Spanish Creek along the way.....the Boulder at Big Timber and Shields on the way there.....Happy Hunting.
