Not so ugly just google reverse spiders for some info on NW sea run cutthroat flies. ;)
You have got to be kidding me! SO, I WAS ON THE RIGHT TRACK THEN??? I just clicked one. Now I'm gonna look at some more. I am surprised they are calling it a spider. It doesn't look like a spider pattern to me.

Kelly

Look for Knudsen spider an old pattern and see how the hackle was merely reversed. ;) I myself have reinvented the wheel several times in my tying. It is fun as a tyer finding those feather benders in the past who have amazingly copied your original ideas.

Okay I just watched a video on this too. Amazing isn't it? Funny how you think you made something unique, then find you didn't...lol. My fly uses pheasant tail fibers, and then up front, I split the reverse hackle portion, almost like a crawdad...but you can't tell from the photo. I tied it in a bit differently than a regular spider body, and it has copper oval ribbing...the hackle is prairie chicken.

Thanks guys, glad you like my tellico nymph inspired offering. :D

Creationbear - Sad to hear that the area is not what it once was. It's a lovely spot and I really enjoyed my time there.

Hank -
Truly, a neat experience when the finely tuned reflexes and motor skills take over.
Appears they tyed a really nice fly and thru the fog took some great pix... :D
Yep it is Hank, I must confess, I think it took ages to tie, slo mo if you get my drift. ;) Motor skills also failed me at times when I did the unspeakable, the thing that never happens to a seasoned fly tier. I broke my thread, and to make matters worse more than once! Got there in the end though, so something must have kicked in. :D

Cheers Buddy

Sorry Kelly.....but you'll have to count to 6 now..... :P :P  .......i had originally layed out 6 of the hooks with the 6 glass beads.........so. :D
Hook: same as the previous 5 others......
Thread: Hot burnt orange Uni 8/0
Tail: orange dyed Ringneck Pheasant tail fibers
Abdomen: Montana Fly Easy Dub brown
Ribbing: UTC red wire
Thorax: silver lined glass bead, orange
Wing/Collar: English Grouse feather.....
Head: as all the rest of this "set" of flies.....none have but a single coat of Hard Headed water based head cement......
i took the pics of a couple of the flies, placed in the electrical clip hackle pliers so you could see the point of the hooks....... ;)
as always, click the pic(s) for best results......... :D .........pics tomorrow.......all 6 hopefully........... 8-)

Here's #3. i knew how weird the collar was gonna be when i chose to use such a small (short barbed) feather.........the fly is completely wacky in terms of tail and "wing" proportions........but it was fun. And how much says it won't work just at sun-up? :D
