Thanks for the info Mark.

CB - I've kind of come to the same conclusion about them looking pretty much the same. It's great because I'm not worrying about the exact match for every situation. I can pick something reasonably close. So much less stress! I'm interested in whether it looks the same with the CDC on first, then the hackle. I'm thinking it'll look like a shuck with legs emerging from it. Is it just a thread body with the two hackles? It has an amazing golden glow to it.

Yeah, not the best picture in the world... :) To answer your question, that's a Pearsall's black thread body with a little yellow Possum inserted, becoming thicker toward the ginger seal thorax. (Actually, the "purpose" of this fly was an experiment to find out what amount/kind/colors of dubbing would "pop" against a dark thread-base the way Ray's Conover Muskrat fly does.) As you can tell from my earlier comment, this doesn't appear to be it.

At any rate, this is the third fly I ever tried to use CDC as a secondary hackle so much works awaits, but I suspect that a CDC hackle wound by itself would either glom onto the hookshank (which would make a great thorax) or work as a "veil" for the primary hackle, depending on if you tied it on fore or aft.

Well I'm happy to report that the fly worked as hoped. I'll say it's a keeper. After I lost two of the I switched back to a CDC and deer.

Bob, great to hear the flies do what you thought they would. I don't see any way they would not be deadly. Glad you got out and gave them a go. I would like to do the same as soon as I get a chance.
